Illela LGA, Sokoto State

Illela Local Government Area is situated in Sokoto East Senatorial District, with its headquarters in the town of Illela . The LGA shares a northern border with the Republic of Niger. It includes several towns and villages, such as Gidan Hamma, Kalmalo, Tozai, Gadan, Dango, Araba, Ketti, Tarke, and Damba . Covering an area of 1,025 km², Illela had a population of 150,133 as of the 2006 census, projected to grow to around 259,100 in 2022, resulting in a population density of approximately 252.8 people per km²  . The majority of residents belong to the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups, with the Hausa language widely spoken in the area . Illela LGA is economically active, notably hosting the popular Illela International Border Market, where a diverse range of goods are traded. Livestock farming is also prevalent, with residents raising horses, rams, and cows.
