Yobe State Harmonized Local Government Budget For 2025
The Yobe State Government has officially approved the Harmonized Budget for its 17 Local Government Councils for the 2025 fiscal year, unveiling an ambitious spending plan valued at ₦89.97 billion aimed at accelerating grassroots development, improving public services, and expanding infrastructure across the state.
The budget document reveals that the councils expect to generate the bulk of their revenue from statutory allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), Value Added Tax (VAT) distributions, and Non-Excess Oil revenues. Together, these sources are projected to contribute over ₦85 billion to local government finances, highlighting the continued dependence of councils on federal transfers to fund their operations and development programmes.
According to the approved estimates, total recurrent expenditure is projected at ₦33.95 billion, covering personnel costs, overhead expenses, and other recurrent obligations. Capital expenditure accounts for ₦56.01 billion, representing more than sixty percent of the total budget and demonstrating a strong commitment to infrastructure development, public facilities, and community-based projects.
Among the councils, Fune Local Government recorded the largest budget allocation of approximately ₦6.96 billion, followed by Jakusko with ₦6.27 billion and Potiskum with ₦5.95 billion. Other councils, including Geidam, Nguru, Bade, and Yusufari, also secured substantial allocations to support local development priorities.
The budget further highlights efforts to strengthen Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through taxes, licenses, permits, market earnings, motor park revenues, rents, fees, and other local sources. While internally generated revenues remain relatively modest compared to federal allocations, several councils have set ambitious targets to improve local revenue mobilization and reduce dependence on external funding.
Government officials described the 2025 budget as a strategic instrument for promoting economic growth, improving service delivery, and addressing development challenges across Yobe State's local communities. The emphasis on capital investment is expected to support road construction, education, healthcare, agriculture, markets, and other critical sectors that directly impact the lives of residents.
