Uruan LGA, Akwa Ibom State

Uruan Local Government Area (LGA), located in Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, was established in 1988 after being carved out of Uyo LGA. Its administrative headquarters is in Idu. Covering an area of approximately 306.1 square kilometers, Uruan recorded a population of 117,169 in 2006, with projections rising to 149,500 by 2022, giving a population density of about 488.5 people per square kilometers. Uruan is rich in mineral resources, including crude oil, natural gas, glass sand, limestone, clay, and sulfur nitrate. Fishing is a significant activity, with the area’s water bodies teeming with seafood.
