Ilaje LGA, Ondo State

Ilaje, one of the riverine LGAs of Ondo State, has its headquarters in Igbokoda . Established in 1976, it spans an area of 3,000 square kilometers . The population, recorded as 290,615 in 2006, is projected to reach 457,600 by 2022 , leading to a population density of 152.5 people per square kilometer. The economy of Ilaje revolves around fishing, salt production, and oil exploration. The area is blessed with vast oil reserves, making it a critical part of the oil-producing Niger Delta region. Additionally, the LGA has a significant aquaculture industry, leveraging its coastal geography. Ilaje is home to the Mahin, Ugbo, and Aheri communities, who celebrate festivals like the Oso Festival and Arogbo Ogene Festival.
