Moro LGA, Kwara State

Moro Local Government Area (LGA), created in 1976 from the Ilorin Native Authority, is headquartered in Bode-Saadu in Kwara North Senatorial District. It shares boundaries with Oyo State and Niger State. The major towns in Moro LGA include Bode-Saadu, Ipaiye, Lanwa, Ejidongari, Olooru, Malete, Jebba, Arobadi, and Elemere . With an area of 3,150 km², the LGA had a population of 108,715 in the 2006 census, projected to rise to 163,200 in 2022, resulting in a density of 51.81/km²  . Agriculture plays a significant role in Moro LGA’s economy, with residents cultivating crops such as cassava, yam, corn, groundnut, and rice, along with various fruits. The area is also known for animal husbandry, particularly the rearing and sales of cows and sheep . In addition, Moro LGA has large deposits of granite, talc, dolomite, tin, marble, silica sand, and stone . Cultural highlights include festivals like the Aaron Festival in Shao and the Alagbe Acrobatic Dancers.
