Kai Ama LGA, Kwara State

Kai Ama  Local Government Area (LGA), created in 1984, is headquartered in Kaiama, within the Kwara North senatorial district. It borders Oyo State to the south and Niger State to the north The major towns in the LGA include Kaiama, Banni, Kemanji, Kanikoro, Adena, Aboki, Woro, and Kugiji . Covering an area of 8,460 km², the LGA had a population of 124,015 according to the 2006 census, which was projected to rise to 186,200 in 2022 with a density of 22.01/km²  . Kaiama LGA is recognized as one of Nigeria’s food baskets, producing significant quantities of agricultural products such as yams (and yam flour), guinea corn, soybeans, cassava, and beans . Other key economic activities include trade and animal rearing. The area is also rich in mineral deposits such as Granite, Marble, and Dolomite.
