Yagba West Local Government Area (LGA) lies in Kogi West Senatorial District with its headquarters in the town of Odo-Ere. Bordering the west of the state adjoining Kwara State, Yagba West LGA spans towns and villages such as Odosin, Egbe, Okunran, Iyemerin, Iddo, Okoloke, Igbaraku, Ejiba, Ogbe, and Akaka. The LGA covers an area of 1,274 km² with a 2006 population of 139,928, projected to rise to 188,600 by 2022, yielding a density of 148.1/km². The LGA is predominantly occupied by members of the Okun ethnic sub-division of the Yoruba tribe. The Okun dialect of the Yoruba language is primarily spoken in the LGA.
