Lokoja LGA, Kogi State

Lokoja local government area is part of the Kogi West Senatorial District. It lies at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers and is the capital city of Kogi State. The LGA comprises several districts which include Ganaja, Adankolo, Felele, and Otokiti. Covering an area of 3,152 km², it had a population of 196,643 in 2006, projected to rise to 265,000 by 2022, with a density of 84.08/km². A number of mineral deposits are found in Lokoja LGA and these include Iron ore and limestone. The area also has a viable trade sector and hosts three major markets: New Market (International Market), Old Market and Kpata Market. Kpata Market and New Market have their market day every Five Days. The essential products sold in these markets are grains, vegetables and general household items.
