Etim Ekpo LGA, Akwa Ibom State

Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, with its headquarters in Utu Etim Ekpo, is located at coordinates 5°1′N 7°37′E within the Akwa Ibom North-West (Ikot Ekpene) senatorial district.The 2006 population census recorded 105,922 people in the LGA, and projections estimate the population at 135,200 by 2022. Covering an area of 200.4 km², the population density is approximately 674.6 people per km². The postal codes for the area are 520 and 532. Etim Ekpo boasts rich deposits of crude oil, natural gas, and silica sand, supporting local and industrial activities. Fishing is a major occupation, leveraging the area's rivers and streams. Other economic activities include canoe-making, farming, and trade. Crops such as cocoyam, oil palm, cassava, and maize dominate agricultural production. Obong University, a private higher institution, is located at Obong Ntak, adding an educational landmark to the LGA.
