Bunkure Local Government Area (LGA), situated in Kano State's southeastern region within the Kano South Senatorial District, has its administrative center in the town of Bunkure. Established in 1989 during Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida's military regime, Bunkure LGA encompasses an area of approximately 491.5 square kilometers. The 2006 census recorded Bunkure's population at 174,467. By 2022, estimates suggested a population increase to around 286,900, signifying substantial growth.
