Owerri North Local Government Area is located in the central part of Imo State, with its headquarters in Orie Uratta. It is amongst the local governments that make up the Imo East senatorial zone. The population was 176,334 in the 2006 census, and it is projected to reach 245,100 by 2022. The LGA spans 167.3 km².
