Ekiti East LGA, Ekiti State

Ekiti East Local Government Area was established under the Local Government Edict of 1979 following the creation of Ondo State, which had its headquarters in Ibadan under the leadership of the late Head of State, Gen. Murtala Ramat Muhammed . The LGA covers an area of 303.5 square kilometres. Its population, recorded at 138,340 in the 2006 census, was projected to have reached 207,100 in 2022, giving it a population density of approximately 682.5 people per square kilometre.Omuo-Ekiti is the headquarters of Ekiti East Local Government. It is a vibrant town known for its rich cultural heritage and numerous festivals. One of the prominent celebrations is the Ayan Festival held in Iludofin, attracting residents and visitors alike to partake in traditional festivities . As one of Ekiti State's prominent commercial hubs, Omuo features bustling markets like the Oja-Obadore Market and the Omuo Community Market in Kota. The town also hosts the Polytechnic Omuo, which serves as an important institution for higher learning in the local government.
