Warri South West was created in 1996 and had a population of 116,538 (2006) with a projection to reach 159,700 (2022). It has a population density of 124.9/km2 and covers 1,279 km2 of area. Warri South West attracts mining and refining companies due to abundance of crude oil and natural gas. Fishing is also a prominent economic activity in Warri South West.
