Yakurr LGA, Cross River State

akurr Local Government Area is located in Cross River State and is under the Cross River Central Senatorial District with headquarters in Ugep town. Yakurr was created out of Obubura Local Government Area in 1987. It had a population of 196,271 people in 2006 and is projected to reach 298,900. With population density of 453 people per kilometer square. Yakurr covers an area of 659.6 km2.the people of Yakurr are predominantly farmers of yam, casava, cocoyam, plantain and they celebrate the Leboku festival every year  .Okoi Arikpo, first Nigerian foreign minister and Usani Uguru former minister of Niger Delta both hail from Yakurr .
