Hawul LGA, Borno State

Hawul Local Government Area (LGA), with its headquarters in Azare, is part of the Borno South Senatorial District. Established in 1996; Hawul covers an area of 1,867 square kilometres. The 2006 population of 120,733 has risen to an estimated 176,900 by 2022, with a density of 89 people per square kilometre.


Agriculture is the backbone of the economy, with the area producing millet, maize, and rice. Hawul is known for its fertile soil and the scenic Hawul River, which supports irrigation farming.
