Obingwa Local Government Area is located in Southeast geopolitical zone in Abia State and has its administrative headquarters situated in the town of Mgboko. It is amongst the local governments that make up Abia South senatorial zone. With a population of about 181,894 (2006 census), it covers an area of 369.5 km² and population is projected to be 264,900 in 2022.
